Parenting is a gift, a responsibility and a challenge all at once. RollerCoaster Parenting believes it need not be stressful and burdening. The joyous, emotional journey of ups and downs can be enjoyed together, with your child.
We would like to take you through a 4 Part video series describing each mantra, the first one being Children are Unique. No two children are alike, be it physically, emotionally, socially or spiritually. We, as parents, must be ready to embrace that uniqueness and celebrate our children with open hearts and minds.
As much as your child is unique, you as a parent and your journey as a parent is also UNIQUE.
Let’s Look at Parenting Mantra No. 1 – Every Child is Unique
There are several benefits to bearing in mind that your child is Unique and have an Individualistic approach of parenting:
Unique Journey: Understanding that every child will have its own unique journey, and it’s up to us to prepare them for their journey, not what we think SHOULD be their journey. Helping them become confident, healthy and aware individuals is what we should pursue.
Instilling Independence: Allowing them to take small, simple decisions by themselves at a younger age. This helps them feel confident, independent and equipped to decide for themselves. This also will enable you to raise your child to be responsible and independent.
Give & Take Respect: If you want to raise your child to respect you and others, then start respecting them NOW! Treat them just the way as you would like them to respect you. They will copy your behaviour, and then, more importantly, they need to understand that you value them for their thoughts, ideas and feelings.
Be there: Creating opportunities for bonding and doing activities together which can support the development of their attitudes, value systems and that will give them that unique edge over the others. Help them understand their uniqueness and as use it to their personal advantage to help others.
I hope you will recognise and appreciate the very essence of being a human in this video. If we raise our children as thinking, feeling, active individuals, we may be able to create a more meaningful parent-child conversation that meets both needs – of being understood as a child and of being valued as a parent.
